Palo is an AI companion that helps you through breakups and no-contact. This Privacy Policy explains what we collect, how we use it, and the rights you have. Questions? Email contact@trypaloai.com.
1. Who we are
Palo operates under FI LLC. The app, called “Palo: Breakup Companion,” is available on the Apple App Store.
2. What we collect
- Account information: email, Apple ID identifier, display name
- Onboarding responses: age, pronouns, relationship context, attachment style, goals
- Chat messages with the AI companion
- Journal entries and mood check-ins with timestamps
- Truth Garden entries containing affirmations
- Photos shared in chat
- Voice recordings processed for transcription or speech synthesis
- Usage analytics via PostHog and Superwall (anonymized events)
- Subscription status (free or paid plan)
We do not collect precise location, device contacts, or external browsing activity.
3. How we use your information
Data is used to personalize the companion, provide core features, generate memory documents, secure accounts, prevent abuse, and improve the product.
We do not sell your personal information. We do not use your personal data to train AI models.
4. Third-party service providers
Data sharing occurs only with contracted service providers:
- Backend infrastructure — database, authentication, storage. Receives account information and user-created content.
- AI/ML providers — chat responses and personalization. Receives chat messages and onboarding context.
- Analytics — product analytics. Receives anonymous events and user identifiers.
- Subscription services — paywall management. Receives anonymous subscription events.
- App platforms — sign-in and purchases. Receives account identifier and subscription status.
Our AI service providers — OpenAI, Anthropic, and Google — operate under business-tier agreements that prohibit training models on your data.
5. Data retention
Data remains while accounts are active. Account deletion via Settings removes all profile data, messages, journal entries, mood check-ins, and memory documents within 30 days. Anonymized analytics may persist.
6. Your rights
All users may:
- Access data copies by emailing contact@trypaloai.com
- Delete all data through Settings or email
- Correct inaccurate information in-app or via contact
- Export data in human-readable format upon request
California residents (CCPA / CPRA)
California users have rights to know what personal information is collected, request deletion, opt out of sales (which we do not conduct), and avoid discrimination for exercising those rights.
European Economic Area, United Kingdom, and Switzerland (GDPR / UK GDPR)
If you are located in the EEA, UK, or Switzerland, you have additional rights under the General Data Protection Regulation and equivalent UK and Swiss laws:
- Access — request a copy of personal data we hold about you
- Rectification — correct inaccurate or incomplete data
- Erasure — request deletion of your data (the “right to be forgotten”)
- Restriction — limit how we process your data
- Portability — receive your data in a machine-readable format
- Objection — object to processing based on legitimate interests
- Withdraw consent — at any time, where processing is based on consent
- Lodge a complaint — with your local supervisory authority
Lawful basis for processing. We process personal data on the following bases: (a) performance of a contract — to deliver the companion experience you signed up for; (b) consent — for optional features like push notifications, photo sharing, and AI processing of your messages, which you explicitly consent to during onboarding; (c) legitimate interests — to secure accounts, prevent abuse, and improve the product; and (d) legal obligation — where required by applicable law.
International data transfers. Palo is operated from the United States. When you use the app from outside the US, your data is transferred to and processed in the United States and other countries where our service providers operate. We rely on Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs) approved by the European Commission and equivalent safeguards for transfers from the UK and Switzerland.

Brazil (LGPD)
Users in Brazil have rights under the Lei Geral de Proteção de Dados (LGPD) substantially similar to those described above for EEA users, including access, correction, anonymization, deletion, portability, and information about data sharing. Contact contact@trypaloai.com to exercise these rights.
Canada (PIPEDA)
Canadian users have the right to access and correct personal information we hold and to withdraw consent for processing. We follow the principles of the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act.
Availability
Palo is available globally on the Apple App Store, except in regions where we are unable to comply with local regulatory requirements. Regardless of where you use Palo, the protections in this Privacy Policy apply, supplemented by any additional rights granted under your local law.
7. Age requirement
Palo is intended for users 18 and older. We do not knowingly permit accounts for minors and will delete their data upon notification.
8. Security
Data uses TLS encryption in transit and at rest. We employ industry-standard practices, though no system is 100% secure. Please protect your account credentials.
9. Not a substitute for professional care
Palo is a self-help tool, not a medical or therapeutic service. The AI does not provide medical, legal, or professional advice. In a crisis, contact 988 or your local emergency services.
10. Changes to this policy
Material changes trigger notification via app or email before taking effect.
